We've all heard about the power of reflection - taking a step back to think about our experiences and learn from them. But let's be real, it's not always easy to make time for it, especially at the end of a long day. And even if we do manage to carve out some time, we might not always see the value in it.
Well, I recently had a breakthrough in my reflection game thanks to my career coach. I was struggling with various reflection methods, trying to find that was easy to do while being effective. My coach suggested his method, the North Star assessment.
So what is the North Star assessment, you ask? It's a focused and actionable way to reflect on your experiences. Instead of taking a broad approach, you evaluate specific areas. For my coach, he assesses:
Company/org priorities
Cross-functional health
Project health
Personal goals
By focusing on these key areas, you can ensure that you're making progress in the areas that matter most to you.
Compared to my previous methods, the North Star assessment feels much more targeted and effective. I'm excited to see how it will continue to help me grow and improve.
