Tomorrow, I’ll have my quarterly reflection with my manager (or Competence Lead as we call it at H&M Group) where we’ll look at the progress I’ve had in the past fiscal quarter and what my goals should be for the next quarter.
Gathering feedback
Part of that was asking people I’ve worked with if they could give me feedback on what they believe my strengths are and what I can improve. It was enlightening to see what patterns emerged. These are some of my takeaways:
I’ve been highly structured in my workshops and approach to testing hypotheses and aligning the team on design requirements.
People feel included and on board with my work because I’ve made decisions through workshops instead of being a “design rockstar”.
I’m quick to act find solutions to problems. (I usually throw out a suggestion ASAP and they run with it lol).
It was definitely not like this during my first 3 months at H&M. It’s difficult to say why. Do I have more impact now because I’ve had time to onboard? Was it because I was in the team from the start and could help shape our way of working? Or does the work I do now align better with my strengths? I’d say it’s a mix. Either way, I’m at a good place at the moment.
Improving processes next quarter
When it comes to what I should be aiming for for the next quarter, I gravitate towards defining or improving processes - I enjoy saving time and finding a better way to do things. I’ve been thinking about how we attract design talent, our onboarding, how we test hypotheses and share customer insights. These are all important areas that should have a strong, structured process. So, let’s see if I have time to do something. I’ll keep you updated on my IG!
My favorite things this week
Website: I just signed up for Brilliant and I’m having so much fun. It’s a website that teaches math, science, and computer science concepts through interactive quizzes. I’m trying to spend an hour a day learning something ned and it seemed to be an easy way to do that. I’ve been doing the Scientific Thinking course and started the Quantum Object course today. Good fun!
TV: Just wanna say that I quite enjoyed Disney+ Wandavision and I’m looking forward to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier!
