Weekly Highlight
Last week marked 1 year of uxcareersecrets. I remember committing to making content for a year. I had read Traffic Secrets by Russel Brunson where he said that the most important thing you had to do to build an audience was to post something every day. I first thought I could do posts, but soon switched to do stories (almost) daily instead. It was difficult to comprehend in July 2020 what it would be like to be on the other side of the one year commitment - but here we are. Time really does fly.
I love doing reflections, so here are some of the benefits from making content for a year:
Connecting with likeminded people. Easily the biggest benefit. By putting your thoughts online, you’ll attract others who think the same. It’s been extremely inspiring to talk and meet these people whom I otherwise wouldn’t have met.
Inspiring designers by sharing my experiences and opinions. There’s been times where I’ve just shared random things in my day that struck a chord with others. You never know what that will be.
Sharing helps you refine your thoughts. Until you have externalized your knowledge or opinions, it’s just shapeshifting blob in your mind. By sharing it, you have to structure it, filter it, look at it critically. This allows you to iterate on your thoughts and improve them.
Understanding viral content. I by no means know how to create viral content yet, but my understanding has become more nuanced - and I certainly know what doesn’t work. Here’s hoping I break the code one day!
If you have been thinking about creating content online, this is your sign to start. Start small, do anything - just stay consistent and you’ll be happy you did it. Looking forward to seeing what you create!
Weekly Notes
Favorite pieces of knowledge from books, podcasts, videos, etc. that I consumed this week.
Atomic Habits (Book)
It’s easier to say no to things that will move you off course if you are clear about what you want and how you will achieve it
Your identity is shaped by the evidence of your actions. If you want to change your identity you have to gradually change the evidence you have by repeatedly doing the actions of the type of person you want to be. In time you will have a new identity.
Without changing your identity you will be drawn to doing the same processes and will get the same results. Identify as someone who has the habits you want to have and you will have the processes and outcomes you think you should have.
It’s not enough to set a good goal. Winners and losers have the same goals. The difference is their systems.
About Face (Book)
If there’s no primary persona then either: 1) the product needs multiple interfaces or 2) the product tries to do too much

Notes and thoughts on this video
This topic came to mind when I asked myself “What would help a UX designer that wants to join a top company?”.
I wanted to make my videos more structured, so I analyzed an Ali Abdaal video to break down how he structures and edits a video. It was extremely useful!
The thumbnail was heavily inspired by struthless.
Still need to balance the number of examples. I really wanted to make it clear, but 7 min for the first section is probably too long lol.
Let me know if you have any feedback on the videos - what was good, what can be improved. Let’s create the best UX YouTube channel together!
